Bredbeck

What we know so far about the Bredbeck family:

John Dietrich Bredbeck and two of his brothers came to this country from Bremen, GERMANY about 1840. They arrived in New York City where they lived, worked, and married before moving to Ohio. All of the Bredbecks that I’ve met in this country are descendants of these brothers.

In 2006, David Kihlken found a website (genealogy.net) in which several German researchers had published their transcriptions of church records from the Parish of Meyenburg, near Bremen, Germany. There are two databases which show our family: Meyenburg and Lesum. Contained in those church records are the baptisms and marriages of John Dietrich (Johann Diedrich), his siblings, and their ancestors. This was a wonderful find and tells us that our Bredbeck ancestors were firmly established in the area near Bremen, GERMANY for about 200 years prior to their immigration to the United States.

Another interesting fact is that there is a locality in the city of Osterholtz-Scharmbeck, near Meyenburg, named Bredbeck. Osterholz-Scharmbeck is also the location of the Tagungshaus Bredbeck.
